As it was a lazy day, I thought I’d try my hand at something new!

This is the first time I’ve attempted a shot of the fish, and luckily for me a couple of the inhabitants weren’t too camera shy 🙂 The two angel fish were the only two who remained out front rather than cowering at the back of the tank – it wasn’t the flash that scared them as I thought it might, but the general proximity of my ugly mug – not nice considering I’m the one that has been feeding the ungrateful little blighters for the last couple of years – and to think, the angels have been walking a thin line with their generally antisocial behaviour within the tank – I may have to reconsider….

The pic isn’t great, there is rather a lot of particulate in the water, (due to the fact I cleaned the tank this morning – I may have to try again tomorrow to see if it clears any over night) but in some ways it may add to the shot – who knows!

Anyway, today sees the ton and a half – can I continue 😉

Typically as I write this the sun is peeking out from behind the clouds, but pretty much all of today has been rained off! Today was the annual Birmingham Pride march – last year a sun drenched event full of colour and people desperate to have their pictures taken – not bad for a Flickrmeet. Unfortunately it was not quite like it this year – there were still a surprising number of chaps wandering around in just speedos, but the rain started falling as soon as I got into town, and carried on hammering down until the march stopped – as a result I didn’t take too many shots, and those that did weren’t particularly good. One or two may appear in the next day or so, but don’t hold your breath – all pretty disappointing really – but hey ho – there is always next year 🙂 I blame the fact I’d cleaned my cameras yesterday!!

Another day another flower!

I did have something else planned for today’s photo, but I have decided not to do it today – maybe Sunday I will try, oooh the anticipation!

No work for me today, and it feels great, and the sun came out to celebrate – the garden was warm enough for a breakfast barbie 😯 with the positives of not having to wash up a sausage encrusted grill pan! And then off on the bike for a ride around the Burton area -very nice it was too, and I even went past the Marmite factory – although it looks like it is made by Unilever these days, isn’t that washing up liquid?? Fortunately the smell was meaty rather than pine fresh or flowery, so we don’t need to worry just yet 🙂

Then disaster, I blew a hole in the exhaust – fix number 3 is no more 😦 It all makes me think I should not mention stuff like that in the blog anymore, as it only jinxes it – or maybe it’s just me!! Anyway to add insult to injury (actually it’s the other way round) I got smacked in the chest by a big rock (? – something very hard anyway) thrown (up) from a passing car – not very nice and it hurt rather a lot – fortunately I wasn’t going very fast and it didn’t hit me in the head as the consequences could have been somewhat different – not good though!

Right, I’m off for a soak in the bath!

This was really much harder than you’d think!

Mainly because the wind was blowing a hoolie (coincidently starting just when I stepped out the door with the camera – tis amazing just how often that happens ) and in one had I had a camera and in the other a reflector – trying to get the last rays of the day’s sun into an area of the garden not normally blessed with light – it worked, and one of the 20 or so photo’s I took was vaguely in focus!

The weekend starts here for me, and I may even have an idea for a photo tomorrow (thanks Neil ;)) – here’s hoping!

5 days off – hurrah 😀

This may be the reason we have no birds in the garden these days!

One of the 3 cats that have moved in next door, and I suspect the reason why there was a huge mass of pigeon feathers found in the garden the other day, but no signs of the owner! Another dull day I’m afraid – I had contemplated going on a photo jaunt to the outlying areas of Brum, but the sky was grey and rain was in the air – not good for anything really, but luckily today’s subject turned up for his photo shoot – I don’t think he was particularly impressed, so didn’t hang around 🙂

Hears hoping there is some sun tomorrow – not looking likely though!

Abstract Tuesday Returns 🙂

But not in such a way that you shouldn’t be able to tell what it is! I got the flashes out for a second day on the run, a celebration of having a bit more energy, and the fact I’m not coughing up quite so much green stuff 🙂 Having said that, maybe a celebration isn’t in order as the summer has probably been and gone – grey skies and cold wind greeted me this evening  – OK it’s probably just wind, cold may just be a tad melodramatic – and at least the temperature in the office remained below 30 degrees today, every cloud and all that…

Now for a cup of tea 🙂

A celebration of my favourite tipple of the moment!

Monday night was an evening dedicated to Strobism, where myself and a friend Rob are training ourselves in the world of off camera lighting. It’s in it’s infancy at the moment, but we seem to be doing OK, and learning a bit on the way.

This shot is from a section in a book called ‘family of angles’ if my memory serves me right, and I’m still not 100% sure quite how this ends up being lit the way it does – the flash is stuck behind a bit of black card which is behind the bottle, but the flash points away from the camera towards the wall – with Rob holding a black reflector over the shot – it works!! There is someting a bit skewed about the shot, but I can’t quite work out what it is – I think the bottle is straight, but the label writing isn’t horizontal – I’ve tried cropping, but at the 6th attempt I gave up 🙂

The gin tastes good too!

I have no idea what plant this is!

P is away at the moment, see how it all goes to pot when my chief assistant/researcher/fluffer disappears – I’m sure if she’d been here my sinuses would be better too! I shall have to take advice from anyone who recognises it – answers on a postcard….

This time I’m not apologising for the flower based pic – I’m recording it for P, as no doubt when she returns the garden will have turned into a drought induced wasteland, with only the odd cactus to be seen (that and dandelions – they’re everywhere at the moment!) It’s not quite that bad – I’ve been watering the pots and nothing seems to have died just yet, but there is still time 🙂 The kitchen thermometer tells me it’s 32 degrees outside, that is hot! I think I may just fire up the barbie tonight 🙂

Oh, happy birthday Matt!

The sun certainly shone!

After fixing the bike exhaust I thought I would take it for a road test to make sure the thing worked at the third asking – so off I popped – it was the hottest day of the year so far, so possibly not the best time to spend 4 hours on the back of the bike, as the black leathers are certainly ‘warm’, but luckily not unbearable – helped if you manage to get over a hundred – the wind certainly cools you down 😀 (only joking Mum, I never went over the speed limit once ;))

My destination was the College of St Michael near Tenbury, a place I’d seen a couple of weeks ago as I passed by on the bike – I wasn’t able to stop and have a look that time, so I returned. It was a much nicer day, and I wandered about taking a few shots – the place was eerily dead, but it looked lovely poking through a field of buttercups. Once stopped though, it was far too hot to be wandering round in leathers, so I took my pics and made a hasty exit – I do like the pic!

And the exhaust seems to be good 😀

The results of a drug fueled afternoon!

But don’t worry, I don’t think Boots sinus decongestant is illegal just yet 😉 It was hard work though, after an afternoon of rolling around on the floor wrestling with a bike exhaust, the last thing I wanted to do was take some pictures, but I noticed these lilly of the valley poking through in the border, and that was it decided for me – it involved a bit more rolling round, but this time the grass was used – much nicer than the garage floor 🙂

And while I’m doing all that, P is packing her bags in Victorville, ready for a weekend in Vegas – some people eh 😉

That’s me done – now for an evening with Chicken wings and rugby league – I just hope Saints can improve on last weeks dreadful performance 🙂
