The ruined belltower…

I’ve passed this church a hundred times and always liked the look of it in the distance, but this is the first real time I’ve looked around in any detail – scandalous really, as when we first moved to Brum we lived in a camper van for 3 months parked about 200 yards away!!

The bell tower is completely hollow, and I’d always assumed the same could be said for the rest of the church, but it isn’t the case, the building is complete! It doesn’t exist as a house of worship mind you, as one source on the interweb suggests it was sold off for offices for an electrical contractor in 1992 – so does it count as a church and should it be included in the project??

The fact that I have no other shot of a church like structure for this week means that it does!

A nice trip to Wolverhampton…

It’s not somewhere I’ve really been too much – granted I’ve seen the odd band play, and every few months there is a camera fair at the racecourse, but the city centre is pretty much new to me. It was a camera fair week, and once I’d spent my pennies on an assortment of random film bits (some good buys though!) those of us from the Birmingham Flickrmeet who were in Wolverhampton decided to head off into town to take some photographs.

There are some pretty interesting buildings in town, Victorian, Art Deco etc, but, maybe because it was a Sunday afternoon, the place had a bit of an odd, almost run down feel – not sure really what it was but it wasn’t the most inspiring of visits – the day was grey though, so a sunnier Sunday may have been completely different.

We wandered, shot some and then went to the pub – what more do you fancy for an afternoon?

A year in pictures!

Thanks to all that have looked, commented and encouraged me on my quest throughout the year!  The 365 project is over, and I don’t think I’ll be doing another one, not in the near future anyway. I may do a project52, but I’m not convinced at the moment – we shall have to see!

It’s not to say I haven’t enjoyed it, because I have, but there have been one or two moments when I thought there was no point in continuing, so thank you for all who all who have encouraged me along the way! I’ve also learned a bit too – I think my photos have improved (some may not agree!) and I’ve taken shots I wouldn’t normally have thought about, used off camera flash, and generally had to think a bit more whilst taking shots – this has made wandering around on holiday much more of a pain for those I am with (sorry P), but I enjoy it a bit more too.

I was going to sign off with a ‘proper’ photo, but the ones I’ve tried today haven’t turned out well at all, so I thought I’d end with a mosaic of my work this year – it maybe cheating, but I don’t mind!

Happy new year to you all – keep on shooting!

V is for victory…

… or is it two? For this is the second to last pic of the series 🙂 What am I going to do with my time?

A nice bottle of dog…

I’m surprised this hasn’t appeared sooner in the series, as I’ve a bit of a soft spot for this brew – it got me through Uni along with Seabrooks Prawn Cocktail Crinkle Cut Crisps 🙂 You used to be able to get N’castle Amber ale in our local offie up in Northumberland, but I don’t think I’ve seen it for years – came in a similar bottle, but with a rather fetching blue label.

I quite like the colour popped blue star myself.

The last abstract Tuesday!

This is a pretty amazing shot – how / why you may ask? It was done in pretty dim conditions with no flash, and with my previous equipment would have been almost unusable – the new camera coped pretty well both focusing and also generating a relatively noise free pic – (there is a bit, you can see from the out of focus areas there is a grainy texture to them, but nothing that can’t be lived with) and I turned the pic into a black and white shot for the artistic effect rather than to cover up the effects of shooting at a high ISO – honest!.

I don’t know why, but I’m really struggling for ideas on the run in to the end – I’d have thought it’d be relatively easy with the end in sight – but no, not as I’d hoped – I had in my mind a countdown themed few pictures, but that seems to have fallen by the wayside, and it’s probably a bit late to start now 🙂

A grey day, but the thaw has begun!

The difference between today and yesterday is incredible – the snow is disappearing at a rate of knots, the Tyne is showing running water again, and what was a completely white field now has patches of grass showing through. It even feels a bit warmer too!

I thought I had to take at least one picture of the banks of the Tyne on the trip up north – it’s a new tradition I need to keep up, but unfortunately I missed the best day with the nice blue sky and sunlight, so you’ll have to make do with a bit of grey 😦

Not much longer now – I should really make a bit more of an effort for these last few days!

What can you get the chap who has everything, including a stuffed animal fetish? A packet of PG Tips with a Munkeh of course!

Take good care of him Matthew!

I’m quite pleased with this photograph actually – the picture is taken in relatively low light and the ISO performance of the new camera looks pretty good – all in all, a success!

Happy Christmas one and all!

The dinner has been eaten, the presents have been opened, so all that needs to be done is take today’s picture of the rather festive tree! Quite how it stays up with the volume of decorations is anyone’s guess, but it does look nice.

I’m off to see if I can squeeze any more food in!

Bit of a festive shot, in a dash before the big drive up north!

I wish I’d spent a bit more time dusting the mantelpiece before taking the shot (although some would say I could do with spending a bit more time dusting generally!!) as it’s really rather messy, and 30 seconds in ‘real’ time would save a lot of work in post production – not that I’ve spent much time in post production mind you (shame on me I say!) but I really should have done.

And then off to Northumberland for Christmas!
