A little bit of colour…

Time for a bit of colour!

The last few weeks have been a black and white bonanza, so I thought I’d liven it up by taking some colour pics! I got totally confused and tried uploading this as a project52 photo, before realising I can’t as I took this last week, so it’ll have to be an extra special treat!

The bluebells in the garden are out in all their glory (although they are the Spanish variety I’m afraid to say…) and are a brilliant subject for us photographers out there – it’s just a case of getting them in the correct light, and without moving too much in the wind! Some more can be seen here and here, and even a pic of the English variety 🙂

I’ve got a few days off, so hopefully if the weather holds I’ll be off out taking some photies – no wedding inspired themes though, just in case you were wondering. I was hoping to go far and wide, but the reality may be somewhat different alas – too much “other stuff” getting in the way… I’m just not dedicated enough!

A garden shot…

Really I should have been out in the sun making the most of my new lens, but alas, the curtains are not going to hang themselves! So while I was dreaming of clicking away, I was actually screaming at the wall for not being decent enough to have a hole drilled in it neatly – I’m sure Bob der Baumeister never had this sort of trouble. Typically it was a beautiful day, and I’m convinced tomorrows Flickrmeet will be windswept and lashed with rain – here’s hoping I’m just being a miserable git!

Back to living flowers methinks!

The first day of my holiday, and a grey and wet drive to the north meant most of my time was unavailable for playing around with cameras – what sort of holiday is that! I did try take one of a conveniently arranged herd of cows who were just meambling over a bridge whilst I was stuck in traffic underneath – unfortunately the cars started moving and at the same time the camera didn’t focus properly through the (rather filthy) windscreen, and in an instant the moment was lost – it would have looked good too, an arc of cows, but I should really have been concentrating on the road – I’ll probably feature in one of those look-at-this-idiot-driving type programs.

All I had the energy for is this flower shot – quite liked the lighting though.

Out in the garden again!

I needed to get the flash out as I’d dallied in the house too long, and the sun had gone down by the time I got my camera out – we’ve got these lovely little flowers popping out at the moment, I have no idea what they are, but they wave about in the wind slightly too much to be photographed easily!

The flash tended to make the flower look a bit overblown, but this was one of the better pics – the processing makes the petals look like they have been painted, I’m liking the effect.

The rest of the evening was spent processing film, and if I get my finger out you may see the results tomorrow!

The last rays of the summer caught on the last flowers in the garden…

OK, maybe not quite true as there are one or two blooms left, but a clear night and a little frost and it’ll be gone – I can quite imagine it happening too – tis only a matter of time, and then what will I have to photograph??

I left work a bit early today (compared with last week anyway) to make the most of the sun as it’s such a beautiful day – the downpours of yesterday are but a distant memory, and it was even warm enough to sit out into the garden, not something we’ve done enough of this year.

Last blooms of the year?

Only 100 days to go, and the nights are beginning to draw in, but fortunately there are still one or two flowers left in the garden – I’m not sure they’ll last much longer, but it was enough to get a few pics for the TTV collage 🙂 Following the picture taking I needed to wrestle with the lawn – the two weeks holiday was enough to produce an unrecognisable forest where the grass had been, complete with myriad of biting things – I’m not sure my shins will ever be the same, but I think it looks better!

The few survivors!

These are the first blooms on the Cape Fuchsia this season due to a plague of strange beetle type insects which managed to turn the first flush of buds into something resembling tar earlier in the year – a shame as the plant looks pretty good when in full bloom. It is one of those plants, however, which seems to hide it’s light under a bushel – I’d never realised how nice each of the flowers were, just due to the way the flowers sit.

I quite like the way the droplets sit on the outer petals, nice!

Back to basics…

Another quick one needed due to the volume of pictures I need to get through from the trip, and as there are still some flowers in the garden, so I thought I’d take advantage 🙂 I like the contrast between the claret and gold, and strangely foretelling Huddersfield’s victory over Warrington in the super league playoffs 😉 Rugby League for those who don’t have any idea of what is going on!!

I can’t remember the name of the flower however….

Well there was for a few minutes anyway, as well as some torrential rain too – just when I was walking across a rather exposed car park to the car – wet I really did get 🙂

This is another of those wide angle, looking up at the stars kind of shots that I like so much – this one is unusual cos the petals on the yellow flowers look fab with the sun shining through. I had attempted to take some shots of red berries on a bush we have in the garden, some were OK but the wind was so strong I couldn’t really frame a shot properly, and keep anything in focus – it was a case of hope for the best, and it wasn’t really good enough. If there is sun tomorrow and no wind, it may just be the pic, but I do really need to pack the van for the holiday – I wonder how many cameras I can squeeze in 🙂
